Week 3 Reflection
Reflection:
What have you discovered about systems or processes in your current organization that would help define the Business Architecture? What are they and how would they help with your development of a Business Architecture? Discuss the value of the work to document the Current and Desired States for the organization.
From learning Week 3’s Module, I have a deep understanding about BA and how it works. In order to know more about how BA works in my school, I searched online and conducted interviews with the principal, the head of IT, HR manager, Finance manager, bus coordinator, and facility manager. The business process defines a series of activities that start with one or more events, manipulate a set of data, and end with one or more results. It’s a sequence flow include the following items: the external/internal business service; the business event’; the sequence of steps; predecessors and successors, etc. I have done Module 3 assignment which is to list all the specific details about the above items of the business process. After completing this assignment, I realised that WAB is an educational organization where use BA to help with a lot of departments running. The external (to customers) and internal (to employees) business service help me understand to whom the service is provided. How it aligns with the mission statement and the feature of this department help us know more and deeper about the business service and capability of the organization. These are all important elements of BA.
Module 3 assignment helps me get more ideas about each business service. Discussion of the current and desired states of WAB really makes me think more about these business services and their connection of working together. I have to research online first, but this question is very hard to find answer online, so I interviewed every single business service manager or head of the department. As a result it’s very valuable because I could know more about those specific business service and its future state planning and the why behind it. I also could figure out how them work together. Take “teaching and learning” as an example, I interviewed the elementary school vice principal who is in charge of “teaching and learning”, she explains to me the 5 year long term plan/ the future state plan” of teaching and learning. She also suggests me to observe teacher and students’ discussion about the students involvement in this domain. From observing students’ discussion, I understand the deep meaning of the future state plan of “teaching and learning”, they also have and will continue running discussions with parents and teachers. These activities help the whole school including all stakeholders know the meaning behind the each domain of the 5 year long term plan. It’s very valuable and necessary. For the internal input, the principal also emailed me the teacher evaluation system and plan. I also know that BA always there to help them connect with other departments and make business decisions.
I have learned a lot from this module from research and interviewing different department managers. Thank you for the opportunity.
